Overview

At this stage of the CAP Performance Pathway there is a huge opportunity to develop. The athlete's body perfectly set up to embed the skills which lead to elite athletic performance. Their nervous system is still super adaptable, and their muscles respond faster to training than they ever will again.

In this stage, athletes need:

Progressed introduction to basic strength moves (squats, push-ups, pull-ups)
Light resistance training done explosively to develop fast-twitch power
Progress speed and agility work that builds on Stage 1
Movement efficiency training, learning to move smarter, not harder

Consistent participation in the stage will result in:

Athletes becoming faster, stronger, and more explosive than their peers
Confidence because their body finally does what their brain wants

At this stage, some things to avoid:

Early specialization that leads to burnout or injury
Too much cardio instead of explosive, skill-building work (these all hit more slow-twitch fiber development)
